New Exactus Thermal Gravure cylinder preparation system

Like many other businesses in today’s highly competitive marketplace, the gravure printing industry is faced with a number of critical challenges. Despite its reputation for producing the finest quality of all package printing, the demand for higher quality, shorter runs and faster turnaround times is leading to increased competition from other printing processes. In response to these challenges, Acigraf has developed the Exactus™, a unique Thermal Gravure system that will allow gravure printers to enhance print quality and colour consistency, while increasing efficiency and profitability.

The Exactus Thermal Gravure system combines two mature technologies: SQUAREspot® thermal laser imaging heads and the Electrolytic Copper Removal process. Combined, this unique gravure prepress system provides a number of important benefits to gravure printers:
1. Superior imaging quality:
The Exactus uses a 3200 dpi SQUAREspot laser imaging head with 208 beam single-head design to ensure superior image quality. Thermally imaged cylinders distribute a uniform layer of ink on the printing materials, which means fewer 'doughnut' or 'fisheye' effects, sharper reproduction, and more vibrant colours.

2. Improved process control: The SQUAREspot imaging head improves process control, allowing printers to achieve reliable and consistent presswork. The electrolytic technology enables precise control of the depth of processed cells, ensuring a consistent depth along the entire cylinder and allowing printers to control the amount of ink used on press with unprecedented accuracy.

3. Enhanced throughput: A run-rate of 2-3 pre-coated cylinders (1.2m in length, 700mm in circumference) per hour makes it the most innovative technology in productivity for rotogravure cylinder prepartion.

4. Cost savings: Printers can expect to achieve significant cost savings over conventional gravure processes and a short-term payback on their investment.

With the Exactus Thermal Gravure system, printers can expect to achieve improvements in print quality, while reducing costs and turnaround times. Through the development of this new system, Acigraf is providing gravure printers with the ability to confront today’s business challenges – profitably and efficiently.
